XLIFF settings

The XLIFF file type has the *.xlf, *.xliff, *.xlz extensions.

Basic Settings
Display segments from groups and trans-units with attribute translate='no' as locked contentSelect the check box to lock content under specific conditions.
Add segmentation information to the translated fileSelect the check box to include segmentation information in the translated file.
Include leading/trailing tags in segmentSelect the check box to ensure that leading/trailing tags are included in segments during translation.
Tag text for XLIFF tagsSelect an option to decide how text will be tagged with XLIFF tags: Default, 'equiv-text' attribute, Tag Content.
Generate the document structure from 'group' elementsSelect the check box to generate the document structure from 'group' elements.
Generate the document structure from 'trans-unit' elementsSelect the check box to generate the document structure from 'trans-unit' elements.
The document structure will be generated from the following attributesAdd the necessary attributes; keep or remove the default attributes: Resource type (restype), Resource name (resname), Menu (menu), Menu option (menu-option), Menu name (menu-name).
Overwrite target-language attribute value when generating translated filesSelect the check box to overwrite target-language attributes.
WhitespaceDecide how you want whitespace to be treated: Always preserve, Normalize unless xml:space='preserve', Always normalize.
Lock segments with statusDecide which segments are locked for translation depending on their status. The default values are: Signed off and Translation Approved.
Map state-qualifier attribute values when reading fileSelect the check box to enable state-qualifier attribute mapping when reading the file.

Display text lengthSelect a value for text length.

Segment status mapping

Map XLIFF statuses to Studio when opening the fileYou can select any status you see fit from the available options. The default mapping is:
  • Initial >> Not Translated
  • Translated >> Translated
  • Reviewed >> Translation Approved
  • Final >> Signed off

  • Not Translated >> Initial
  • Draft >> Initial

Embedded Content

Allow processing of content embedded in a document into tagged markup according to a set of regular expression rules. Embedded content is identified using document structure information.Toggle the button to enable the use of regular expressions when processing embedded content as translatable content.
Defined by document structure information - Document structure informationType the name of the document structure item and then select plus sign.
Defined by document structure information - Tag definition rulesEnable this option to set the selected embedded content processors to extract embedded content from specific context. Create extraction rules based on the document structure information. Make sure that the document structure information you specify here is covered by a parser rule in the Parser settings section for your file type. Trados Studio and Trados Online Editor can only extract embedded content that is recognized by the file type parser.
  1. Select Add New Rule.
  2. From the Tag Type list, choose a value: Placeholder or Tag Pair.
  3. In the Regular expression field, enter the regular expression.
  4. Select the Ignore Case check box to ignore the case of the identified content. Otherwise, keep the default value (clear check box).
  5. From the Segmentation Hint list, choose a value from the list to determine how segmentation is performed: May Exclude (default), Include, Include With Text, Exclude. The value you specify here is available when you configure a parser rule under Parser > Add New Rule > Properties > Advanced Settings > Segmentation Hint.   6. Select Save.
