Getting started
As administrator, you can configure, create and monitor anything at any time. There are several actions you must perform, so that project managers can carry out their activity. To start using Trados, consult the Getting Started section.
About this task
Note that:
- Some of the actions you perform as administrator can also be performed by project managers, namely the following steps below: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8.
- All the actions you can perform as administrator can also be performed by lead project managers. Administrators have full permissions systemwide, while lead project managers have full permission (administrator) permissions at Customers folder level or specific customer level.
- A project contains many resources which can be stored in various locations (folders). Translation engines are composite project resources, in the sense that translation engines group under one umbrella TMs, termbases, and MT. The project itself is stored in a location (folder) of your choice. If the project location is not the same as the location of the translation engine, make sure the TMs and termbases you add in the translation engine are in the same folder as the translation engine or in the parent folder of the translation engine.
As administrator, you must perform the following steps below, before project managers start working: 2, 3, 4.
Procedure
- Become familiar with the which control what stages your translation can go through. Workflow stages consist of a mixture of Automated tasks or Human tasks. You must assign users to all the Human tasks in your workflow.
- Add customers to create a folder structure for your work.
- Set up customer requesters.
- Set up users for group assignment or for individual assignment. Depending on the workflow stages the project will go through, you must set up all or some of the following user personas: lead project managers, project managers, translators, engineers or DTP engineers.
- Set up linguistic resources: translation memories (TMs), termbases, machine translation (MT), translation engines.
- Set up workflows.
- Set up file type configurations.
- Create project templates and associate customers with project templates.
What to do next
At this point, you can start work on the following:
- Create projects from the cloud environment or Create projects from Trados Studio.
- Plan projects.
- Monitor projects.
- Deliver completed projects.
- Translate or review documents. These activities are performed by translator and reviewers.
- Perform engineering on documents (engineering proper or DTP).
