DTDs and XML editors

Content Manager keeps the DITA grammar files in a central location on the server: $\Web\Author\ASP\DocTypes. The content of the DocTypes\ folder is automatically synchronized to the client, so that both XMetaL and Oxygen uses the DTD files from this folder for validation purposes. Depending on the XML editor you use, some additional action may be required to ensure that the editor uses these files.

Oxygen
Oxygen uses the built-in DITA configuration editor files to control the editing experience.
XMetaL
Because XMetaL expects the editor customization files at a specific location, copies of the customization files for DITA are available on the server in the folder Websites\Author\ASP\ClientConfig\XMetaL\VERSION\LocalStorage\DocTypes\, where VERSION is the version of XMetaL. These files are automatically synchronized to the client.
But if you create custom public identifiers or DTDs, you also need to copy those customizations, found under the Websites\Author\ASP\ClientConfig\XMetaL\VERSION\LocalStorage\DocTypes\ folder, to your XMetaL installation and keep the two in sync. For more information, refer to the XMetaL Customization Guide, available from https://xmetal.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/XMetaL-Customization-Guide.pdf.
