Finding a topic in the Repository
The Repository may contain thousands of objects, and you may have to use the search feature to locate your topic or map before you can insert it in a publication.
Before you begin
This task requires that:
- You opened a publication in Publication Manager.
- The Repository contains topics.
About this task
The search feature is used in the browse dialog, therefore you can use it whenever you are carrying out an action involving that dialog (creating an object, inserting an object...).
When looking for a topic, image or map in the Repository, the three most frequent searches are:
- A simple text-based search that goes through both the content of the object and the metadata.
- A search for a GUID. All objects in the Repository have a unique identifier named "GUID". That identifier can be found in the properties of the object. The GUID guarantees that you find the exact object you are looking for.
- A search for a topic title. Searching a topic by title requires that you use the advanced search settings. The search is performed on the metadata title, and ignores the content.
Procedure
- From Publication Manager top menu bar, select .
- In the left-hand pane of the browse dialog, select the Search tab.
- Depending on the data you have, do one of the following:
- Enter keywords, or a sentence between quotes, in the Find what field then hit Search.
- Enter a GUID in the Find what field then hit Search.
- Display the advanced options by selecting the arrow next to Advanced options, enter keywords, or a sentence between quotes, in the Title field, then hit Search.
- Select the topic you were looking for in the right-hand results pane, then Insert.
- Select OK in the browse dialog. Your topic is now inserted right below (as a child to) the object selected as entry point.
