Publishing

This is a functional overview of the publishing activity including the publishing options to tailor the output for your specific needs.

Select versions of topics and images
The information architect selects the exact version for each object (topics, maps, images, etc) to be included in the publication.
Apply context
The information architect leverages the single-source, universal topics by specifying the context to apply when generating the publication. This typically involves defining the audience profile, regional preferences, product features, and market characteristics.
Delivery to a variety of output formats
Content Manager fully supports DITA out of the box; a variety of output formats is readily available. Content Manager can be integrated with the leading publishing engines: SDL XPP, a delivery platform , Antenna House XSL Formatter, Arbortext Publishing Engine and others.
Ensure integrity (backward traceability)
It is always possible to identify and re-publish a specific publication because Content Manager labels all content included in every released publication version.
Personalization / localization
  • Conditional Text

Content Manager provides an easy-to-use mechanism to create valid and consistent conditions. Condition Manager allows the information architect or author to define and manage a list of valid condition names and condition values. Condition Builder allows authors to select these valid conditions and apply them to specific content. For example, an author might identify that a legally required warning is only applicable in a specific market so that content will only be published when that specific market value is applied.

  • Variables

Variables (or labels) can be defined and managed in the Content Manager system. Authors may insert defined variables instead of hard coded text in the XML content. These variables are resolved during publishing and the appropriate text is included in the publication. For example, instead of hard coding the product name throughout the XML content, a variable can be used. This makes it possible to immediately update a publication with a new product name by simply changing the variable definition.
