Autocompleting the baseline in Publication Manager
You must assign a version to use for each object (e.g. topic, map, illustration) that your publication references. The Autocomplete feature fills in the gaps by finding appropriate versions for objects in the whole publication. A background Autocomplete is running in the background when the publication is loaded as well as each time the publication is changed. A manual Autocomplete can be triggered from the user interface at any time. The latter is the one you can set easily when working on your publication.
About this task
Autocomplete aims at assigning a version to each object in your publication. The background process adds versions only to objects that have no version assigned, while the manual process can also change the version of objects that already have one. The background Autocomplete behavior is set in the client side configuration option <autoCompleteBehavior>, and may be modified by the user with sufficient knowledge of the configuration files. The default value for this background Autocomplete task is WithLatestAvailableVersions, which is similar to the behavior "Latest available version" described below.
The procedure described below addresses the manual Autocomplete feature that you can use from the Publication Manager user interface. The manual Autocomplete behavior override the background one. The manual Autocomplete will assign a version to all objects in your publication following the behavior you specified, whereas the background process only assigns versions to objects that have no version at all. If assignment made by the manual Autocomplete conflicts with an assignment previously made by the background Autocomplete task or by yourself, a dialog will ask you to confirm the choice.
Procedure
- In Publication Manager, open a publication.
- Click the Baseline tab.
- Click Autocomplete.
- Specify how your publication will be completed with the appropriate versions (the Autocomplete behavior).
- Baseline
This Autocomplete behavior assigns versions from another Baseline to complete yours. This affects any object that appears in the opened publication.
Click Select Baseline. You are prompted to select the baseline to use.
If you select the Baseline that is currently active, that choice will have no effect, as you will use a Baseline as reference for itself.
After you confirm by clicking the Autocomplete button,Publication Manager will consider any object found in the selected Baseline that is used in your publication. When there is no version for an object in your publication, Autocomplete will assign it from the selected Baseline. If an object has a different version between your publication and the selected Baseline, Autocomplete will propose a change and a confirmation dialog lets you choose if the replacement is performed or not.
- Candidate for baseline
This Autocomplete behavior assigns versions marked as candidate for the specified Baseline to complete yours. This affects any object that are linked as candidate to the selected Baseline.
Each object can be linked to a Baseline as "candidate", as part of its properties.
Click Select Baseline. You are prompted to select the baseline to use.
After you confirm by clicking the Autocomplete button,Publication Manager will consider any object marked as candidate to the selected Baseline that is used in your publication. When there is no version for an object in your publication, Autocomplete will assign it from the corresponding candidate. If an object has a different version between your publication and the corresponding candidate, Autocomplete will propose a change and a confirmation dialog lets you choose if the replacement is performed or not.
- Latest released versions
The latest released version is assigned to all objects.
Click Latest released versions. After you confirm by clicking the Autocomplete button,Publication Manager will replace any object found in your publication that have currently no released version assigned, or a released version different from the last one, by the latest released version of this object. Each time this causes a change of version in your publication, a confirmation dialog lets you choose if the replacement is performed or not.
- Latest available versions
The latest available version is assigned to all objects.
Click Latest available versions. After you confirm by clicking the Autocomplete button,Publication Manager will replace any object found in your publication with any assigned version older than the last one by the latest version of this object. Each time this causes a change of version in your publication, a confirmation dialog lets you choose if the replacement is performed or not.
- First versions
Version 1 is assigned to all objects if version 1 exists. If it doesn't, the object has no version assigned.
Click First versions. After you confirm by clicking the Autocomplete button,Publication Manager will replace any object found in your publication with the object's version 1. Each time this causes a change of version in your publication, a confirmation dialog lets you choose if the replacement is performed or not.
