Creating a new version of a publication in Publication Manager

Create a new version of a publication when you want to republish a new, updated, or modified version of the publication after it has been released.

About this task

If you create a new version of a publication from a released version of the publication, all of its content are in a released state. You must create new versions of the objects that you want to edit.

Procedure

  1. In Publication Manager, open a publication.
  2. In the left-side pane, right-click on the publication object, the highest object in the hierarchy. Select New Version.

The operation takes a few moments as Publication Manager creates the new publication version and copies all the content of the previous version into it, and then closes the previous version. If you want to access the previous version of your publication after this is done, you need to open it again.

  3. Click OK.
  4. Save the publication by using the Save icon in the top left tool bar.

Results

You can start working in this new version of your publication. All the updates will be stored in this new version, leaving the old version unchanged.

You may also want to create a new version of the root map to go with the new publication version. This step is not technically mandatory, but may be necessary for deliverable version readability. Do not forget to edit the root map title (the content title) to reflect the change of publication version.
