Folders
All content in the Content Manager repository is stored in folders. When creating a folder, you define the type of content that it can contain. Content Manager does not use the location of an XML object for addressing or linking so the folders are for your convenience only for organizing, storing, and locating objects.
The types of folders are:
- Content folder
-
A folder that contains objects, such as DITA maps, DITA topics, reuse files, folders, or images. You must specify the type of object to be located in the folder. The folder may only contain objects of the type specified and subfolders that contain the same object type. The types are:
Object type What it can contain (None) Other folders Image Illustrations, graphics, images Library Topic Reuse topics Map DITA maps or bookmaps Topic DITA topics Publication Publications Other (Word, PDF, ...) Non-XML documents, for example, Microsoft Word or PowerPoint files The folders of type Map, Topic and Publication can be associated to user groups, so that the content can only be viewed by the users belonging to those groups when they use a Tridion Docs delivery platform.
- Query folder
-
A folder that is defined by a set of query parameters.
- When you click on the folder, the query is executed and the folder is populated with the results of the operation.
- A query folder can only contain other query folders.
- Shortcut folder
-
A folder that contains references to objects stored elsewhere in the repository. For example, a product-specific folder can contain all the images and topics that are referenced by the publications for the product. This is similar to Windows shortcuts.
- A shortcut folder can only contain other shortcut folders or query folders.
- A shortcut folder cannot contain content.
- My Favorites
- A folder that contains frequently-used objects. This folder is different for every user based on the user's selections.
