How can I move (promote or demote) a topic in Publication Manager?
You can reposition topics or maps in Publication Manager without having to use your editing tool.
Question: How can I relocate an object in the Publication Manager interface?
You can drag-and-drop topics and nested-maps, or use the positioning arrows to relocate objects in Publication Manager and organize the hierarchy of information in your publication.
Know that when you relocate objects in Publication Manager you are editing the map in which the object is located. So to do this, you must check out the map in which that the topic or nested-map is located. Note that if you are modifying a topic in a nested-map, be sure to check out the parent map also.
- Right-click on the parent map then select Check Out. The map is checked-out in Publication Manager, it is not however opened in your editor. You can see the edit lock next to the map when it has been checked out successfully.
- You can then drag objects to relocate them in the publication, or use the positioning arrows in the top left pane under the tabs. Arrows that can be used (that is, are valid for positioning the object from where it is located) are active when an object is selected.
- To promote a topic that is in (under) another object, select the topic then click the left arrow to promote it. This promotes it to a location directly below the object in which it was located. To promote it and relocate it to a different location, drag-and-drop it into place.
- To demote an object, select the topic then click the right arrow. This demotes it, or makes it a child of the topic that is located directly above it. To demote it and relocate it to a different location, drag-and-drop it into place.
