Import phase

During the import phase, the content and the metadata associated to it are imported into the Content Manager Repository.

During the import operation, status messages are written to the import.status file. This ensures that status information is not lost if the import is interrupted for any reason.

Target folders

The distribution of the content in the Repository depends on the object type, not the information type. When you import content into the Repository, the content from the source folder is created in the following Repository folders:
Object typeFolder name
Map (ISHMasterDoc) Import/Maps
Topics (ISHModule) Import/Topics
Image (ISHIllustration) Import/Images
Library topic (ISHLibrary) Import/Libraries
Other (Word, PDF...) (ISHTemplate) Import/Other
where Import is the value that was specified in the Target Repository folder field combined with the relative path in the source folder. However, if your content contains only one type of object (only topics for example), all is copied in Import (no additional folder is created).

If the directory structure in your source content folder contains child directories, matching folders are created in the Repository.

If you import into an existing folder, the owner of that folder is inherited by all child folders that are created.

By default, read access to the folders is granted to members of all Content Manager user groups.

Resuming and restarting

You can pause and resume during the import phase. The import then proceeds with the remaining operations.

If you interrupt the import during the import phase (when you cancel the import for example), and then restart it, Content Importer only import the files that have not been successfully added to the Repository before the interruption.

If a content file or a metadata file has been changed in the source content folder or in the conversion folder, then both conversion and import are run again for impacted files.
