Importing content using the user interface

Content Importer's user interface guides you through three possible types of import. Each type addresses specific needs and has its own list of parameters to set.

The welcome screen

After you start Content Importer you are presented with a choice between three types of import.

In the bottom half of the welcome screen you can find previous or running imports.

Standard

Your purpose is to import content, DITA or otherwise. This content is either without metadata, or with metadata that doesn't match your Repository requirements. In this mode, your content goes through a conversion phase first: the appropriate metadata is created for it. Then all is imported in the Repository folder that you specified, and if necessary child folders are created to store the objects by type.

This mode allows pre-processing by using a XSL file. Pre-processing applies to the metadata only.

Without conversion

Your purpose is to import content, DITA or otherwise. Your content is already associated with valid metadata inside .3sish files. Those files are located in the source folder, next to your content.

This type of import skips the conversion phase, and uses your .3sish files to associate the metadata to the content. This gives you more control on exactly which metadata is paired with your content. However, you should use this type of import only if you know what you are doing.

Translation

Your purpose is to import translated content for objects that are already present in the Repository (find more information about exporting for translation in the Manage Translation chapter in this documentation). The only conversion operation is the setting of a specified translation status.

This type of import requires no specification of a destination folder in the Repository.
