A conref allows you to reference another object or the contents of an element stored in another object in the repository. You can insert a conref into a topic or map that is checked out from the repository.
Procedure
- In your XML authoring tool with the object open for editing, place the cursor where you want to insert the conref.
- Click .
The Insert Conref window opens. This is a repository view window.
- Browse through the repository and select the object to which you want to link.
- Click the grey box around the element that you want to reference.
Note:
- Only the elements that have an @id attribute and that are valid at the insertion point in your DITA topic or DITA map are displayed with a grey box.
- You can, optionally, specify the text to use as the link in the Text to display field at the bottom of the window.
- Click Insert.
- If you selected text to link, the text becomes the link to the file.
- If you did not select text, the topic title becomes the link to the file.
Note: If you copy a conref that is already in your topic and paste it in another location in the topic, you must refresh the view to see the full reference: right-click (anywhere) in the topic then click Refresh All References.
