Publishing status

The publishing status for a publication output indicates the state of the publish process or the outcome.

The following table describes the possible statuses that a publication output can have.
StatusDescription
To Be PublishedThe publication output has been defined and is ready to be published.

No publishing has been initiated.

PendingThe publishing process has been requested but not yet started by the server.

The server that processes publishing jobs is busy processing other jobs, and the pending job will be processed as soon as possible.

PublishingThe rendering of the publication is in progress.
DraftThe output was published successfully, but it is not yet ready for release.
Specifically, there are issues in the rendered content that prevent the output from being a Release Candidate. Typical issues include the following:
  • One or more objects are not yet released.
  • One or more objects are not present at all.
  • One or more objects images are not present in the requested resolution.

The publish report lists all issues that were found during the publishing process.

Deploying DraftWhen publishing to Dynamic Delivery, the output has published successfully but the deployment of the output is still in progress.

As with the Draft status, the output is not yet ready for release.

Release CandidateThe content was published without any issues and the publication output can be released.

Specifically, this means:

  • All objects were present and released, including libraries.
  • All requested image resolutions are present.
  • There were no invalid links, hyperlinks, conref links, or similar issues.
Deploying Release CandidateWhen publishing to Dynamic Delivery, the output has published successfully but the deployment of the output is still in progress.

As with the Release Candidate status, the content was published without any issues and the publication output can be released.

Out-of-dateThe previously published output is out of date due to changes in certain aspects of the publication.

Specifically, one or more of the following events have occurred since the last time the output was published:

  • Resources have been added to or removed from the publication.
  • The publication's root map has been added, replaced or removed.
  • A property of the publication object's version has changed.
  • A property of the specific output has changed, excluding the Status, Review end date and customer-specific fields.

To apply these changes to the deployed output, you need to republish.

ReleasedThe publication output has been released.

You can make no further changes to the content of the publication.

FailedThe publishing process did not complete successfully due to a serious error.
Unpublish PendingThe unpublishing process was initiated.

The server that processes these jobs is busy processing other jobs. The job is processed when possible.

UnpublishingThe unpublishing of the publication is in progress.
Unpublish FailedThe unpublishing process did not complete successfully due to a serious error.
CancelledThe user stopped the publishing or unpublishing process before it had finished.

Unpublishing can be cancelled only during the unpublish pending phase.
