Saving a publication as a new publication

In Publication Manager, you can save a publication as a new publication when you want to create a variant of that publication.

About this task

Scenario: You need a new document for a new generation product that is a significant upgrade to the old product. You want to start documenting by using the old, existing publication to which you plan to make many modifications and alternations. You know that the existing publication contains information and topics that you can use and that starting with the existing one is a more efficient way to begin documenting the new product.

Procedure

  1. In Publication Manager, open the publication to be used as the basis for the new publication.
  2. Click Publication > Save As.
If you have made changes, you are prompted to save the changes.
  3. Click Yes to save changes if prompted to do so.
  4. Select the location in the repository where the copy of the publication is to be located.
Note that the container must be defined for storage of publication objects.
  5. Click Next in the lower right pane.
  6. Enter the Title of the new publication.
Enter other information in the remaining fields as needed.
  7. Click OK.
The new publication is opened in Publication Manager.
