What's new in Tridion Docs

This section describes the new features and changes introduced in this release of Tridion Docs that impact more than one capability.

From Tridion Docs 14 to Tridion Docs 15.1

The most important product-level features that were introduced between Tridion Docs 14 and Tridion Docs 15.1 were:

Time zone storage change for date-time items in Content Manager databasePrior to Tridion Docs 15.1, timestamps (date-time values) were stored in the Content Manager database in the time zone of the application server(s). As from Tridion Docs 15.1, timestamps are stored in the Content Manager database in the UTC time zone. This change is reflected in log files, both on the client side and on the server side.

This change does not affect end users or implementers. They will continue to see the same timestamps as before.

However, this change does enable the following infrastructure improvements, with some caveats:
  • Previously, the application server(s) needed to be in the same time zone as the database server. After you have upgraded the DBUpgradeTool (DBUT), your database server and your application server(s) to Tridion Docs 15.1, this is no longer necessary. However, RWS strongly recommends to keep the application server(s) close to the database server, to avoid performance issues.
  • Previously, the application server(s) could not be moved from one time zone to another time zone. After you have upgraded the DBUpgradeTool (DBUT), your database server and your application server(s) to Tridion Docs 15.1, it is possible to move your application server(s) to a different time zone. However, moving them means that users looking at publish logs and translation logs will see different timestamps after the move, because these logs show timestamps in the local time zone of the application server(s).

Show a user's Display name instead of User name

The Collective Spaces user interfaces, Organize Space user interface and all the client tools now display a user's Display name (for example, "John Doe") instead of their User name (for example, "jdoe" or "u65876"). We have made this improvement to help in situations where the value of the User name does not clearly identify a user to other system end-users, such as for customers that use unique identifiers for the User name.

This enhancement can be seen in various places in Draft Space, Review Space and Organize Space. In general, this includes anywhere users are identified in relation to various actions they have performed in the system, for example, the Locked by and Last modified by properties.

The following are some of the places the Display name is now shown:
  • Options for search or filtering a list
  • Properties pane for topics and maps
  • Document history
  • Annotations
  • Revision history for objects in Organize Space
  • Translation job properties in Organize Space
  • Publication Hub assignments in Organize Space
  • Inbox list in Organize Space

User interfaces and product documentation for end user user interfaces in Canadian French

The user interfaces for Organize Space, Draft Space, Review Space and the desktop client tools are now available in Canadian French (in addition to US English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese).

Modern authentication with Tridion Access ManagementThe modern authentication feature offers improved, modernized user authentication based on the OpenID Connect protocol and provides the Tridion Access Management application (or simply Access Management) as a single, simplified interface for managing access to Tridion applications by end users and by the APIs for other applications.15.0.0
VeracodeTridion Docs applications are now verified by Veracode to incorporate application security best practices embedded in the software development process. Public listings can be found on https://www.veracode.com/verified/directory/rws-group.14.0.4
Semantic AISemantic AI capabilities streamline and automate the process of tagging information while adding powerful search capabilities when content is delivered through Tridion's Dynamic Experience Delivery (DXD) module.
  • Users can create and manage a multilingual, SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) standard taxonomy easily with tools such as corpus analysis, import and customize other taxonomies, with a true linked data approach, through our new Taxonomy Space user interface
  • A new Smart Tagging feature suggests useful concepts from the organizational taxonomy managed by Taxonomy Space
  • Fully automated tagging on batches of content that allows content teams to tweak tags manually after they are applied
  • With DXD, smart search and dynamic filters enable improved information findability and discovery.
