Assigning or reassigning an activity

If an activity is assigned to you or to a group in which you are a member, you may be allowed to reassign it to another user or group.

About this task

In certain situations, you may find yourself wanting to reassign a workflow activity you started. For example, one of the following occurs after you start an activity:
  • You partially complete the activity, but don't have the ability to do all the required work. Perhaps you have created the text for a new article, but you also need a photo or graphic to go with the text. In this case, you need someone in the Graphics department, so you reassign the activity to that group.
  • You partially complete the activity, but you don't have the necessary access to one or more of the activity's related items. Perhaps you have the right to edit the description and image of a product, but not to edit the price. In this case, you need to reassign the activity to another user or group that has the necessary edit rights.
  • You realize you will be too busy to finish the activity within the time allotted. In this case, you would like to assign it to another user in your group.

Procedure

  1. From the Workflow Activities page, select the activity you want to reassign. It can be assigned to you (with the status Assigned or In progress.
  2. Select (Assign activity).
  3. From Assign to, select one of the following:
    • a user — Assigns the activity to a specific user (they must be a member of the predefined group or one of its subgroups).
    • a group — Assigns the activity to another group that is a subgroup of the predefined group, which means that any user in that group can pick it up.
  4. Select Assign.

Results

The activity status changes to Assigned and it will appear on the Workflow Activities page of the assigned user or group.
