A page in Content Manager corresponds to a unit of publishable content, which is typically a webpage on a website. Regions further subdivide a page into smaller content areas. Create an empty page to specify the intended structure and behavior of the corresponding published content. You create pages within the structure groups of publications.
Before you begin
To create a page, you must have Page Management rights, as well as write permissions for the structure group where the page is being created.
Procedure
- Within a publication, go to the structure group in which you want to create the new page.
- Select .
- On the General tab, fill in the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|
| Name | A display name for this page wherever it appears in the Content Manager user interface. The name must be unique within the current structure group. |
| File name | A filename (without file extension) for the published webpage on the website. The filename must be unique within the current structure group. |
| Page template | A page template to define general structure and behavior of the page. The page template typically designates a page schema, which defines a page structure with one or more regions. The exception is if your organization is not using regions. Select an appropriate page template according to the publishing model and guidelines provided by your organization. The page template is required regardless of the publishing model being used. |
| Inherit from parent | When selected, the page uses the page template that is associated with the current structure group (if there is one associated). Clear this option to select a different page template. |
| Page schema | The page schema associated with the selected the page template (if there is one associated). You cannot change the page schema while editing a page. The page schema is defined in the page template.
- The page schema can restrict the number and types of components (or component presentations) you can place on the page. If a page has nested regions, this restriction applies only to the top level of the page and excludes the nested regions.
- The page schema may also define metadata that you can (or must) define for the page.
|
| Region schema | Each region that is present has a region schema. The individual region schemas can restrict the page structure beyond the restrictions of the page schema. You cannot change a region schema while editing a page. Region schemas are defined in the page schema.
- The region schema(s) may constrain the number and types of components (or component presentations) you can place specifically in each region.
- The region schema(s) may define metadata that you can (or must) define for a region.
|
- With the preceding items defined for the new page, you can now do the following:
- Add components to the page or its regions
- Add page or region metadata
What you are allowed to add to the page or to any individual region depends on the constraints of the associated page and region schemas. Refer to the Constraints tab for details on what is or is not allowed.
- Select Finish page.
Results
You have created an empty page. Depending on the structure group in which you created this page, you may now be prompted to add this page to a bundle so that it can enter workflow. You can choose to skip this step, but until you add it to a bundle, your changes will not be checked in.
