Inserting images in Experience Manager format areas

You can insert, replace, resize and set the properties of an image in an area with formatted text. Depending on the webpage you are on, it may also be possible to insert a standalone image at a specific position.

About this task

In an area where formatted text is allowed, you use images that are stored in Content Manager. You can also insert images that are links to external websites; however, inserting linked images is not recommended. Because such an image is managed by the owner of the website, it can change or disappear at any time, if and when the owner decides to change or remove it.

Procedure

  1. On an editable webpage, start editing by clicking the pencil button in the top right corner.
  2. Select an area where formatted text is allowed and do one of the following:
    ActionSteps
Insert an image stored in Content ManagerPlace your cursor in the position where you want to insert an image. Continue with the remaining steps.
Insert a non-managed, linked imagePlace your cursor at a location where you want the image to appear. Copy-paste the image from the webpage into the area. You can skip all remaining steps.
Replace a non-managed, linked image with one stored in Content ManagerSelect the existing image you want to replace. Continue with the remaining steps.
  3. If the Insert tab at the top of the page shows an enabled Image control, click this control.
The library slides into view on the left.
  4. If you want to upload a new file, you can do so in several ways:
    • If you use a Chrome or Firefox browser in Windows, you can drag a file from Windows Explorer or from your desktop directly onto the Library. The file is uploaded and a Multimedia Component is created that contains the file in the Folder location in which you dropped the file.
    • Alternatively, click the area at the bottom to open a system file selection dialog, navigate to the location of your file, and select it.
The name of your file must not contain the characters %, & or +, nor any non-ASCII characters.
  5. Alternatively, navigate through the Folder structure until you see a thumbnail of the item you want to use. If you know (part of) the name of the item you want to insert, you can also click the Search button at top left and enter it, using the * and ? wildcard characters where necessary, into the search box that appears.
  6. To see more detailed information about this item, such as its title, creation date, or who created it, click on the "i" icon.
  7. Click Select to use the currently selected image.
  8. In the Insert Image dialog, if you want to, you can see and change the alignment, size, and other advanced settings by clicking Advanced.
  9. Click OK to insert the image you selected.
