Setting up the Tridion extension for Language Weaver
The Language Weaver extension provides quick machine translations to optimize and reduce the cost of the translation process. The machine translations can be used as a first step with a post-edit to produce quality translations or can be used with no post-edit, perhaps as an interim translation where the value of a traditional translation is determined to be needed. Setting up the Tridion extension for Language Weaver involves initial server-side installation through the Add-ons Service, followed by some additional configuration, as needed.
- With Translation Manager, where the machine translation serves as a first step in the translation process, with a follow-up step to send the content for translation through Translation Manager
- Independently, without Translation Manager for quick machine translation only
The extension's configuration either comes entirely from the extension's JSON configuration or partly from that file and partly from Translation Manager's configuration (when Translation Manager is used).
When using this extension, the translations can be initiated from either the Classic user interface or Experience Space. The act of localizing a Component triggers instant machine translation when the Schema is configured to be translated and the Publication is mapped to a language. During this machine translation step, the extension:
- translates Component content and (optionally) metadata
- sends only fields that are configured as being translatable
- includes single and multi-line text fields, rich text fields and embedded Schemas
A notification displays to the user when content has been machine translated (currently, only in Content Manager Explorer). The user can check the translations and edit as needed, and then publish the content as normal.
