Viewing publish transactions in the Classic UI

The Publishing Queue provides an overview of your publish transactions. Note that transactions include both publish and unpublish actions.

Before you begin

  • To view the Publishing Queue, you need publishing rights for at least one publication.
  • To perform actions on publish transactions that you did not initiate, you need additional system privileges.

About this task

Procedure

  1. Access the Publishing Queue through one of the Content Manager user interfaces.
    • Content Manager Explorer — On the Home tab of the Ribbon toolbar, click Publishing Queue.
    • Experience Manager — On the Manage tab of the Ribbon toolbar, click Publishing Queue.
  2. By default, the Publishing Queue shows all your publish transactions that were initiated or scheduled for completion during the current day.
    To change what is shown, do one of the following:
    • To view all scheduled publish transactions, click Show Tasks.
    • To filter the results, set one or more parameters under Publishing Tasks and then click the Show Tasks button.
      You can filter publish queue items on the following criteria:

      TargetSelect a target type to see only publish actions submitted to that specific target type.
      PublicationSelect a publication to see only publish actions involving items from that specific publication.
      UserSelect a user to see only publish actions submitted by that user.
      StateSelect a publish transaction state to see only publish actions in that specific state.
      PrioritySelect a publish priority to see only publish actions submitted with that specific priority.
      Schedule

      Select Show All Tasks to show all transactions regardless of the scheduled time.

      select Show Tasks Scheduled for the Time Between and a specific a start time and end time to see only publish actions scheduled to be performed between that start time and that end time.

  3. In the Publishing Queue, you can perform a number of actions on a selected item.
    The following options are available on the toolbar and when you right-click on an item:
    OptionAction
    Opens a content item such as a Component or Page, or go to its location
    Shows the details of the publish transaction
    Repeats the selected publish transaction This action is useful for repeating transactions that are in a failed status once the reason for failure has been resolved.

    You can perform this action on multiple selected items.

    Forces a scheduled publish transaction to publish immediately
    Shows an item in the BluePrint hierarchy
    Shows where a content item is being used
    Open the properties of an organizational item such as a Folder or Structure Group
    Removes the selected publish transaction from the queue

    You can perform this action on multiple selected items.

Results

You see a list of publish transactions, which refreshes automatically as publish transactions start and finish. (Changes to the publish state appear with a five-second delay.) The Show Tasks button is disabled until you change the search parameters. You can also filter the displayed list using the arrow button that appears next to the columns in the list.
