Viewing publish transactions in Experience Space

The Publishing Queue provides an overview of your publish transactions. You can access the Publishing Queue at any time by selecting the tab in Experience Space .

About publish transactions

A publish transaction is a package that gets created as the result of a publish or unpublish action. One publish action can result in multiple publish transactions. For example, if you publish a component and select two different targets, such as Live and Staging, there will be two packages, one for each of the targets.

You can use the various filters to change the view to your needs. The screen capture that follows explains the filters and other options that are available.

The numbered icons in the screen capture highlight the following key features of this view:

  1. If a number appears at the top of the Publishing tab, one of your publish transactions has completed since the time you last refreshed or opened the Publishing Queue. Click the (Refresh) button to show the latest data.
  2. Use the (Customize data request...) button to set filters that will remain in effect for future sessions (until you change them).

The data request filters enable you do to the following:

    • View the publish transactions for all users or limit the list to only your own transactions.
    • Specify a transaction date range. By default, the Publishing Queue shows all your publish transactions that were initiated or scheduled for completion during the current day.
    • Limit the list to transactions for specific publications, states, target types or priorities.
  3. Additional buttons appear at the top of the list when you select one or more transactions. You can also perform these actions from the context menu (right-click).
    OptionAction
(Delete)Removes the selected publish transaction from the queue
(Redo)Repeats the selected publish transaction This action is useful for repeating transactions that are in a failed status once the reason for failure has been resolved.
(Export)Exports the selected publish transactions to a .CSV file

  4. The filters, together with the sort and column configuration options, enable you to refine the displayed data according to your current needs. From the Filters list, select the filters that you want to use and then select values for the individual filters.
You can also use the free-text filter to quickly filter the list across all of the following details:
    • Primary item
    • Publication
    • Publish transaction
    • Target type
    • User
The filtering includes both the field name and the URI and applies to data regardless of whether the related column appears in the list. It is also handy to know that the text filter can be used in combination with other filters.
  5. In the Insights area, you can view additional details for the selected transaction. For more information, refer to the "Insights area" section of this topic.
  6. In the PROGRESS column, you can quickly check the high-level status of publishing transactions. The possible progress statuses are as follows:
    • SCHEDULED indicates the item is waiting for a prescheduled time to arrive and includes both the "Scheduled for Deployment" and "Scheduled for Publish" states.
    • IN PROGRESS indicates the publish transaction has been picked up and is in some state of the publishing process. The "In progress" status includes various publish states that are neither scheduled nor final, such as Transporting, Rendering, Deploying and so on.
    • SUCCESS indicates the publish transaction is now completed.
    • FAILED indicates the publish transaction did not complete successfully for some reason. To find out more, go to the Information panel of the Insights area.
    • WARNING indicates the publish transaction completed but with errors.

Insights area

For any item in the Publishing Queue, you can view additional details about the selected publish transaction in the Insights area. The following are some of the key things to know about each of the panels:

Information
Provides general information on a selected publish transaction, including several details that are not visible in the list view.
Certain details appear only when they are relevant to the specific transactions you have selected. For example, if a transaction has a Warning or Failed status, the panel displays the reason.
Resolved items
Shows all the items that were resolved by a completed publish transaction. If any items failed in the rendering, they will be listed on a separate tab from the successfully rendered ones.
