Adding metadata
Some metadata gets generated automatically, such as when a content item is created. For example, the date created, author, and version and are metadata that automatically gets created for a new piece of content. Other metadata is information that you must add, such as a summary of a Component that describes what it contains and how it is used.
About this task
You can add metadata to the following content and structural item types in Content Manager:
- Components
- Multimedia Components
- Publications
- Structure Groups
- Pages
- Regions
- Folders
- Virtual Folders
- Bundles
- Keywords
The metadata that you can define for an item depends either on the item's schema or on a special metadata schema that you select. This depends on the type of item, as follows:
- For a Component or Multimedia Component, the metadata you can add is determined by the Component's Schema.
- For a Bundle, the metadata you can add is determined by the Bundle's schema.
- For a Publication, Page, Structure Group, Folder, Virtual Folder or Keyword, you must select a Metadata Schema. Some types of items may have a default Metadata Schema already selected, which you can change if needed.
