Best practices for authors and editors for using color in an accessible way

As a general rule, avoid giving your formatted text any kind of color. The color scheme of your website is typically strictly controlled, and creating, say, colored headings in your text risks violating that color scheme.

For this reason, it may be the case that Tridion Sites has already been configured to disallow you from applying any color to your text.

However, if you are able to apply a color to your formatted text, and if you are able to, select to use a color that contrasts with the background color:
  • Normal text should have a color contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
  • Large text should have a color contrast ratio of at least 3:1.

The Experience Space user interface has an Accessibility Checker option for rich text fields. If you are an author inserting, or an editor checking, an a rich text field with text in a non-standard color, run the Checker to be warned about any text whose color doesn't sufficiently contrast with the background color.
