Applicability

Applicability is the method by which you can tag content that is only appropriate in specific situations such as content that is targeted for a specific audience or for a specific product.

You can set applicability for:
  • the whole DM
  • specific information within the DM; also referred to as referenced applicability and (in Issue 3.0) inline applicability.
S1000D IssueApplicability tags
Issue 3.0In the DM, in the <idstatus> section:
  • For DM applicability: <applic>
  • For inline (or referenced) applicability: <inlineapplics>/<applic>
Issue 4.0In the DM, in the <identAndStatusSection> section:
  • For DM applicability: <applic>
  • For referenced applicability: <referencedApplicGroup>/<applic>
Issue 4.1 or higherIn the DM:
  • For DM applicability, in the <identAndStatusSection>section: <applic> or <applicRef>
  • For referenced applicability, in the <content> section: <referencedApplicGroup>/<applic> or <referencedApplicGroupRef>/<applicRef>

For showing or hiding content within the DM, use Applicability Manager to create, modify, or remove Referenced Applicability. By declaring product attributes (in the ACT) and product conditions (in the CCT), you can apply simple assertions or you can evaluate and apply grouped assertions for each product instance (in the PCT). Additionally, you can build applicability expressions by reusing applicability defined in other DMs that share the same ACT.

From the Contenta menu in the Arbortext or Oxygen XML editor, choose from the following tools when working with applicability.

  • The Manage Applicability tool (Arbortext only) is accessed using the Contenta dropdown menu in Arbortext Editor and allows users to build, add, modify, or delete applicability annotations (expressions, statements).
  • Assign Applicability to assign the applicability to data within the DM.

Both the Modify button and the New button are disabled if the DM being edited contains CIR applicability references. These buttons are disabled in the Assign Applicability tool only.

  • Preview to filter and view the document based on the applicability assigned to inline content.
