ISO-8859-1 Encoding with no XML declaration

UTF-8 Encoding with no XML declaration

Using the XML file as shown, but with UTF-8 encoding, and no XML declaration at the top, note that some of these same characters from the previous example are now encoded as two bytes in UTF-8 versus one byte for ISO. Displaying in Internet Explorer If you open this file using Internet Explorer (IE) the correct data is displayed because IE assumes UTF-8 encoding. Displaying in XMetaL Author As previously noted since XMetaL Author determines the actual encoding from the data stream, the data is displayed correctly.
