Enabling transliteration of unknown words

When unknown words are found, users can prompt SDL ETS to transliterate them, namely to spell words letter by letter using the Latin alphabet. This is useful for character conversion in languages such as Arabic or Japanese.

Before you begin

Transliteration of unknown words is available for specific language pairs only.

Procedure

  1. Launch the Web GUI.
  2. Log in using a valid ETS user account.
  3. Select Quick Translate from the left navigation.
  4. Select source and target languages.
  5. Expand the translation Settings menu.
  6. Under Unknown Words, select Include in output.
  7. Under Unknown Words, select the Transliterate checkbox.
  8. Enter text or upload file to translate.

Results

Unknown words of the source language script will be transliterated into Latin characters.
