Recreating a termbase

If you want to base a new termbase on another one, or if your termbase is corrupted, you can always recreate the original termbase from the backup files.

About this task

You can recreate a termbase by importing its structure (language fields, descriptive fields, entry structure and termbase objects) and its data (termbase entries) into a new termbase.

Procedure

Import the structure of your termbase:

  1. Select the Server tree and click Add/Create from the Ribbon.
  2. In the Termbase Wizard, click Next to go to the Termbase Definition page.
  3. Select Load an existing termbase definition file and click Browse.
  4. Select the *.xdt file which contains the termbase definition of your original termbase and click Open.
  5. Click Next on the Termbase Definition page of the Termbase Wizard.
  6. Enter a name for your termbase definition and, if required, update the description and the copyright fields then click Next.
  7. Click Next through all the following pages of the Termbase Wizard to keep the structure of the original termbase, or edit it as required.
  8. Click Finish on the Wizard Complete page to close the Termbase Wizard.

Import the termbase data:

  1. Expand your termbase and select Import Definitions from the Public Objects tree.
  2. Click on Default import definition in the details pane.
  3. Go to the Edit menu and select Process to call up the Import Wizard.
  4. Click Browse.
  5. Select the *.xml file that contains the termbase data and click Open.
  6. On the General Settings page select:
    • Fast Import (import file is full compliant with MultiTerm XML), if you do not want validation checks to be performed on the entries in the import file.
    • Perform full reorganization after import, if you are usually experiencing problems after import, like unwanted duplicates or unfunctional fuzzy searches. This option automatically rebuilds the termbase languages so that you will not need to do a full manual reorganization after the import.
  7. Click Next on the General Settings page of the Import Wizard.
  8. Complete the Validation Settings page.
  9. Review the import summary and click Finish to close the Import Wizard when the import is complete.
