How to open a Package

Packages contain work that you need to complete or contain work completed that is being sent back to you. You must first open the package in SDL Trados Studio to update Studio with the updated files or to access the files for translation or review. You can open a project package and a return package in Studio.

  1. Select File > Open > Open Package or click Projects view > Packages group > Open Package in the Projects view. The Open Package dialog box is displayed.
  2. Double-click on the project package or return package to open it.
  3. The Review Package Contents page is displayed. Review the package details and select folders from the bottom left-hand pane to view the files within that folder in the bottom-right hand pane.
  4. Double-click on a file to preview it, or select the file and click View File. A preview window is displayed with both the document to be translated and the document translation side by side. The source language document appears on the left and the target language version on the right.
  5. Click Finish to import the package. The Importing Package page is displayed.
  6. If you are opening a project package and it is the first time that you have opened a package for this project, Studio will, by default, create a folder for this project under My Documents. This folder is labeled with the name of the project to which the package is associated. You can choose to save the project to a different folder, by clicking Browse in the Review Package Contents window.
  7. If you are opening a return package, Studio checks the files included in the package to make sure they were more recently modified than the local files in the project. If it finds a file in the package that is older than a local file, a prompt is displayed asking if you want to overwrite the local file with the one from the package.

  8. When the import is complete, click Close to close the Open Package wizard.
  • If you opened a project package, a project, corresponding to the project details in the package, has been created and opened in Studio. The manual task assigned to that package is displayed in the My Tasks folder on the navigation tree of the Files view. You can then open files for translation or review from the Files view.

  • If you opened a return package, the corresponding project is updated with the completed manual task information in Studio.
