How to open a translation memory for editing

This topic describes how to open a translation memory for editing in the Translation Memories view. Click the Translation Memories button in the navigation pane to display the Translation Memories view.

Opening a TM that is in the navigation tree

To open a translation memory that currently appears in the navigation tree:

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, check the navigation tree:
    • If the translation memory does not currently appear in the tree and it is a local translation memory, see the topic section Opening a TM that is in the navigation tree.
    • If the translation memory does not currently appear in the tree and it is a server-based translation memory, see the topic section Opening a server-based TM that is not in the navigation tree.
    • If the translation memory does appear in the tree, go to step 2 below.
  2. In the navigation tree, double-click the translation memory or right-click the translation memory and select Open from the shortcut menu. The translation memory is opened for editing in the TM side-by-side editor window and it becomes the active translation memory.
    • If the translation memory is server-based and contains more than one language pair, the Select Language Pair dialog box. Select the language pair for which you want to edit the translation units and click OK.
    • If the translation memory is password protected the Translation Memory Password dialog box is displayed. Select the highest access mode for which you have a password, enter the password and click OK.

Opening a local TM that is not in the navigation tree

To add a local translation memory to the navigation tree in the Translation Memories view and open it for editing:

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, select File > Open > Open Translation Memory. The Open Translation Memory dialog box is displayed.
  2. Navigate to the location of the *.sdltm file, select the file and click Open. The translation memory is added to the Translation Memories folder in the navigation tree and is also opened for editing in the TM side-by-side editor window. The translation memory becomes the active translation memory.
    • If the translation memory is password protected the Translation Memory Password dialog box is displayed. Select the highest access mode for which you have a password, enter the password and click OK.

Opening a Server-based TM that is not in the navigation tree

To add a server-based translation memory to the navigation tree in the Translation Memories view and open it for editing:

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, select File > Open > Open Server-based Translation Memory to open a server-based translation memory.
    The Open Server-based Translation Memory wizard is displayed on the Select Translation Memory page.
  2. Select the server where the translation memory that you want to edit is located from the Server drop-down list. The list of translation memories on that server is displayed.
  3. To select a translation memory, click on the row to highlight it.
  4. Click Next. The Select Language Pair page is displayed. On this page, a list of all of the language pairs in the server-based translation memory is displayed.
  5. To select a language pair to open for editing, click on the row to highlight it.
  6. Click Finish to open the selected language pair from the translation memory for editing.
