Overview: Editing and deleting translation units

You edit translation units in the TM side-by-side editor window in the Translation Memories view. You can only edit translation units in the active translation memory. You can edit translation units in the following ways:

  • Edit the content of both source and target language segments.
  • Assign values to custom fields or change the currently assigned values. Click About Fields for more information about custom fields.
  • Delete translation units.
  • Use Find and Replace and Copy and Paste to update translation unit text.
  • Use batch tools to edit or delete multiple translation units automatically.

Changes are not effective immediately; you have to save (commit) changes in order to make them permanent.

Translation Unit Status

When you edit or delete a translation unit the background color of the translation unit changes and an icon appears in the Translation Unit Status column (to the left of the source segment). The icon indicates the current status of the segment:

This indicates that the translation unit has been edited but the changes have not yet been committed. The change could be a change to the translation unit text or to the values stored in custom fields for the translation unit.

This indicates that the translation unit has been marked for deletion but the deletion has not yet been committed.

Committing Translation Memories Changes

When you commit translation memory changes, all pending changes in the TM side-by-side editor window are saved to the translation memory. Once you have committed a change, it cannot be undone.
