Configuring Source content

You can send content contained in a Publication, Folder, Structure Group, or Category for translation. This task describes how to configure an item in your Translation BluePrint which contains content in a source language.

Before you begin

To configure source content:

  • You must have Translation Configuration rights for the Publication.
  • For SDL Translation Management System (SDL TMS), you require the Configuration ID or GUID.
  • For World Server, you require Client and Project Type information—a Client is an organization or a department within an organization, and a Project Type contains the definitions of a translation project such as source language. A Client is associated to one or more Project Types.

Procedure

  1. Open the Content Manager Explorer.
  2. Select the item which contains content in a source language and choose Properties from the context menu.
  3. Select the Translation tab.
  4. Set Item is configured for translation to Yes.
  5. In the Item is configured for translation section:
    1. Select the Source for translation radio button.
    2. In the Send notification e-mail to field, enter a comma-separated list of e-mail addresses of people who need to be notified when items are sent for translation (optional).
  6. To configure Translation Manager for SDL WorldServer, in the Translation source configuration section:
    1. Select SDL WorldServer from the Translation Management System drop-down menu in.
    2. Select a Client from the drop-down menu.
    3. Select a Project Type from the drop-down menu.
The language of the Source Publication is set. The Target language configuration shows a list of possible target languages:
In the Target language configuration section, you can view or specify the following:
    • Language—each row shows an allowed target language.
    • Publication—the Target Publications that have been configured to receive content in this language.
    • Default Workflow—the workflow assigned to the selected Project Type
  7. To configure Translation Manager for SDL TMS, in the Translation source configuration section:
    1. Select SDL TMS from the Translation Management System drop-down menu in.
    2. Enter the Configuration ID that identifies a translation configuration defined on SDL TMS (GUID). Note that it may take a few moments for this information to be retrieved.
When you enter the Configuration ID, the language of the Source Publication is set and you can configure each target language.
In the Target language configuration section, you can view or specify the following:
    • Language—each row shows a target language allowed by the Configuration ID.
    • Publication—indicates the Target Publications that have been configured to receive content in this language.
    • Default Workflow—select a default workflow for each translation language pair (when you initiate a Translation Job, you can specify a different workflow).
    • Authorization required—select the check box if you want translations to stop at the Authorization workflow stage when going though the SDL TMS workflow, if the Authorization stage is part of the workflow. If you deselect the check box, the translations will skip this stage, which may be desirable if the Translation Job is relatively small and\or is urgent and the costs of the translation involved relatively minor.
  8. In the Translate item options section (available when you select Publication properties), select whether you want to send additional Folder, Structure Group, Page, Category and Keyword fields for translation:
  9. Click Save and Close.
