Unclassifying content

The unclassify action allows you to remove a Keyword association from one or more Content Manager items such as Pages and Components. When you unclassify an item, the Keyword or Keywords are removed from the Keyword fields of the item (Component fields or Metadata fields).

Before you begin

  • To be able to use unclassify functionality, you must the relevant rights for the type of Content Manager item you want to unclassify and Write permissions for the organizational item
  • The items to unclassify must be local copies or local items (you cannot unclassify items that are shared)
  • The items to unclassify must be checked-in (applies to versioned items only)
  • The Keyword fields for the selected Content Manager items must be optional (as defined by the Schema)

Procedure

  1. Open a Publication and expand the Categories and Keywords node.
  2. Select a Keyword in the Navigation Pane or List View.
  3. Select one or more Content Manager items in the Classified Items List View and
    • Choose Unclassify from the context menu.
    • Click the Unclassify icon.
    A confirmation screen appears.
  4. Click OK to confirm you want to unclassify the selected items.

Results

Each Keyword field in an item selected for classification is evaluated individually:
  • The action fails if a Keyword field is mandatory field, in which case an error message is displayed providing details.
  • When the action succeeds (the Keyword field is optional):
    • the Keyword or Keywords are removed from the Component fields or Metadata fields of the selected items
    • a new version of the item is created
    • if the item is associated with a Workflow Process, and the Start workflow process on classification action setting is enabled in the SDL Tridion MMC Snap-in, the item goes into Workflow

What to do next

After you have unclassified content, you need to republish the items to synchronize the changes with Content Delivery.
