Exporting tasks as translation kits

If you want to work on one or more tasks offline, in a tool such as SDL Trados Studio, you can export those tasks from WorldServer in the form of a translation kit.

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to the Projects page.
  2. On the Projects page, do one of the following:
    • On the WorldServer 11 interface, click the name of the project that contains the tasks you want to export.
    • On the Classic interface, select the check box next to the project to export all the tasks in the project or click the name of the project to select which tasks to import.
  3. On the Tasks page, make sure that you have claimed the tasks that you want to export.
  4. Select the check boxes corresponding to the tasks that you want to export.
  5. Select Export.
  6. In the Create Translation Kit for Tasks or the Create Translation Kit for Projects dialog box, do the following:
    1. Select the format of your translation kit. You can choose between formats such as:
      NameDescription
Regulator Bundle1A .zip archive that contains a number of .docx files that need to be reviewed2.
WSXZ3 4A WorldServer .wsxz file that you can use with SDL Trados Studio 2019 or other supported versions.
Bilingual DOCXAn external review document in Bilingual DOCX format.
XLIFFA .zip archive that contains a file in XML Localization Interchange File Format.
    2. Next to TM Information, select whether you want to export the content of the previously configured project TMs, a link to them, or both. The TM Information section is available only if you choose the WSXZ format for your translation kit.
    3. Select the Allow split and merge check box if you want to be able to split and merge segments in the translation kit.
    4. Next to Segments to exclude, select whether or not you want to exclude certain types of segments from your translation kit, such as segments with ICE matches.
    5. If necessary, next to TM Filter and TD Filter, select an existing translation memory or terminology database attribute filter or select Add Filter to configure and add such filters 5.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • On the WorldServer 11 interface, select Export, and then select Download.
    • On the Classic interface, select OK.
When you export a translation kit that contains the tasks in a project, WorldServer automatically adds certain information (the project ID and the target locale) to the name of the kit. On the other hand, SDL Trados Studio has a 50-character limitation on project names. Therefore, if you export a translation kit whose name exceeds 50 characters and import it into SDL Trados Studio, Studio will truncate its name and add other characters, according to the following example:
    • Name of the project in WorldServer: Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_DITA (31 characters)
    • Name of the translation kit exported from WorldServer: tasks_Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_DITA_43012_ru_RU_xliff.wsxz (60 characters)
    • Name of the project in SDL Trados Studio: Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_D_ru_RU_20150212_110347 (50 characters)
1 You can only export Regulator Bundle kits for projects that use File System AIS mounts. Also, you can only export bundles if the tasks are in the Review step.
2 In a Regulator Bundle kit, you can only export .docx files segmented with the Microsoft Word 2007-2013 file type. This feature does not support Microsoft Word 2003 (or earlier) files, even if they were created with the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack installed. Reviewers have to use Microsoft Word 2007 or higher.
3 When you export an updated .wsxz translation kit from WorldServer 11.1 or later and open it again in SDL Trados Studio 2017 (Cumulative Update 5) or later, the existing project is updated in Studio. In previous versions, Studio would create a new project each time you imported the same translation kit.
4 Translation quality assessments from SDL Online Editor and Browser Workbench are included in .wsxz translation kits starting with WorldServer 11.3. Therefore, the error types and severities configured in your project's quality model in WorldServer are converted automatically to categories and severities when you open the translation kit in SDL Trados Studio. The errors reported in SDL Online Editor and in Browser Workbench are also displayed in SDL Trados Studio. For TQA profiles to be included in translation kits, make sure that the project type has a corresponding quality model.

In WorldServer 11.3.0, the tasks that you want to export also need to be in the Review step or in another step type configured in the workflow. This requirement has been removed starting with WorldServer 11.3.1.

5 TD attribute names are truncated if they exceed 50 characters.
