Deleting picklist values from custom fields

You can delete picklist values while editing custom fields. Consult the scenario below to learn about how deleted picklist values behave in project templates and projects.

Procedure

  1. Go to Resources > Custom Fields, and open a custom field to edit it.
  2. Delete some picklist values.
  3. Notice the following behavior:
    • After you delete some of the values of the picklist custom field, the filters used in project templates and projects still show all the initial values of the custom field, including the deleted ones.
    • After you delete some of the values of the picklist custom field, you can open the project template where the custom field is used. Open the project template to edit it. You can see a warning that some of the values of the picklist have been deleted from the custom field resource in the meantime. For example, a custom field has the picklist values: , , , . You delete value d from the custom field. The project template which includes the custom field marks value with a warning sign. When editing the project template, you must select one of the other remaining custom field values in order for the project template to be valid.
    • After you delete some of the values of the picklist custom field, you can open the project where the custom field is used. Open a project and consult the custom fields in the Settings > Custom Fields tab. You can still see and use the picklist values that have been deleted from the custom field resource. For example, a custom field has the picklist values: , , , . You delete value d from the custom field. The project which includes the values that were deleted from the custom field retains the deleted values. However, if you want to add the deleted values of a custom field on a new project, this is no longer possible. The filters in the Projects list allow you to filter by all the existing and deleted values of the custom fields included in projects.
