Cleaning up segmented assets

Every time the source segments of an asset are modified, a new segmented version of that asset is created. The Segmented Assets Cleaner removes segmented assets that are no longer needed because their source asset has been modified. By default, if you cancel or complete a project, the segmentation information is marked as obsolete, so that the Segmented Assets Cleaner can remove it as quickly as possible. This helps WorldServer have more memory and database space for other actions.

About this task

To clean up the segmentation information in workflow-based and ad hoc assets, you need to use the Segmented Assets Cleaner. This cleaner has a default nightly schedule, but you should run it at least as often as the General Cleaner.

Procedure

  1. Go to Management > Administration > Garbage Collection > Segmented Assets Cleaner.
  2. On the Garbage Collection: Segmented Assets Cleaner page, under Cleaner Settings, do the following:
    1. If you want the Segmented Assets Cleaner to run only for a certain period of time, select the Limit run time duration for the cleaner check box, and then specify the maximum run time of the cleaner (in hours and minutes).
    2. In the Minimum number of days before temporary FTS data is deleted box, specify the number of days that you want temporary data related to the File Type Support (FTS) Server to be stored in the database.
This data is generally left over from ad hoc scoping.
    3. In the Minimum number of days before unclaimed FTS data is deleted box, specify the number of days that you want unclaimed FTS Server data to be stored in the database.
This data may be related to cancelled tasks or other interruptions made to task claiming in WorldServer.
  3. Under Cleaner Schedule, do one of the following:
    • Select Run with General Cleaner to use the same schedule both for this cleaner and for the General Cleaner.
    • Select Set custom dates and times to specify a different schedule for this cleaner. Under Date(s), select whether you want the cleaner to run either in certain days of the week or in a specific date of a specific month, and then select the dates and times.
  4. Select Save.
