Object properties

This topic describes object metadata, or information that is stored in an object's property sheet.

Property Sheets contain data associated with an object, but is separate from its contents. This is referred to as its metadata.

A property sheet data field may:
  • Require that you supply data in the field. If the field mandates that you supply data, you cannot close the property sheet until the data is entered. Data may be entered using the keyboard or from a drop-down list.
  • Contain a default entry. Default field entries may be defined by the system or by the SysAdmin with the Contenta Administration tool. If the SysAdmin defines the default entry, he or she can specify whether the field is read-only or editable.
  • Contain data that is supplied by the system. System-supplied data fields are not editable. For example, the Creator field in the property sheet for the ContentRoutingProject or a standard Project object is supplied by the system and cannot be modified—the system uses your desktop name in the Creator field.
