Creating an Experience Optimization-enabled page

To simplify the task of creating new Experience Optimization-enabled pages, the DXA Experience Optimization module provides a predefined page template, Example Experience Optimization enabled Page.

About this task

This task describes how to create a new page that is enabled for Experience Optimization using the sample page template and metadata schema that comes installed with the Experience Optimization module.

Procedure

  1. Begin creating a new page in your publication according to normal methods.
  2. On the General tab, define a page name and file name for the page.
  3. From the Page template list, select a template that is enabled for Experience Optimization, such as the DXA sample template named Example Experience Optimization enabled Page.
  4. If you receive a prompt asking to confirm removal of existing regions, select Yes.

All existing nested regions and Component Presentations will be removed from the Page and replaced with Regions defined in the selected Page Template.

  5. Select the Design tab.
The left half of the content area shows the tree structure of the Page and its Regions. The Example Experience Optimization enabled Page Template includes three regions:
    • Hero
    • Example1
    • Example2
  6. (Optional) Define Component Presentations to serve as fallback content for the Experience Optimization regions.
Fallback content is displayed in a region if none of a Promotion's triggers are satisfied or if there are issues communicating with the Experience Optimization services. In either case, there is no targeted content returned, and so the fallback content is used instead.
    1. In the structure, select the Region for which you want to add a fallback Component Presentation.
    2. Select Add in the Ribbon toolbar.
The Add Component Presentation window opens.
    3. Locate and select a Component that contains the content you want to display as fallback content.
    4. From the Component Template list, select a template that is associated with Experience Optimization region, such as the Article Component Template that DXA provides with the module.
    5. Add additional fallback Components, as needed, and when finished, click Close.
    6. Repeat these steps to add additional fallback content in other Regions, as needed.
  7. Select Save and Close to commit your changes.

What to do next

Refer to the SDL Tridion Sites documentation for general information on Regions and on using Experience Optimization, including creating Promotions to appear on the new Page.
