Reclassify a product Component in a content mashup

Reclassify the product Component to change how the product is classified in the taxonomy. In a dynamic content mashup, the related technical content from SDL Tridion Docs will be updated automatically to reflect the product change.

Before you begin

Reclassifying a product requires editorial permissions for the product Page and product Component.

About this task

While editing a product's Page in Experience Manager, you can reclassify the product, that is, change how the product is classified in the taxonomy. For example, you might need to change the family to which the product belongs.

In a content mashup, reclassifying a product has a different overall impact depending on whether the webpage was implemented using a dynamic or a static content mashup model. The differing results are as follows:

  • If the webpage is using the dynamic content mashup model, reclassifying product affects not only the product Component itself. Related technical content from SDL Tridion Docs is updated automatically to reflect the change.
  • If the webpage is using a static content mashup model, reclassifying the product affects only the product Component and has no effect on the related technical content. In this case, you must edit the Component that defines the technical content, classifying the content there.

Procedure

  1. On an editable webpage, start editing by clicking the pencil button in the top right corner.
  2. Select the product Component, and then display its properties.
  3. From the Properties panel, select the Edit button for All fields.
  4. In the bottom portion of the page, you can do the following to reclassify the product Component: displays Select values for the keyword fields.
    • Select values to reclassify the product with different Keywords values.
    • Add new keywords to classify the product. Click the Add (plus) icon to select a Category and then a Keyword.
The fields that you see depend on the Content Type that was selected when creating the Component. Based on the combination of values selected for these fields, the published and rendered webpage will show the appropriate content from SDL Tridion Docs.
  5. Select Save and Close.
Experience Manager updates the preview to show your content selections.
  6. Click Finish Editing to publish the Page updates.
