Update Studio with externally reviewed target files

If you sent your files for external review using the Export Files batch task with the Target version option selected, you can import the changes made to the file back into SDL Trados Studio. This import updates the target segments in the *.sdlxliff project file with any edits made to the text of the file. This feature is not available for SDL Trados Studio Starter or Express edition.

About this task

Before you can update the file from reviewed target file, make sure the file does not contain any track changes, TQAs or comments, as these would conflict with the imported changes. Also, you cannot use Retrofit on merged project files or on files merged from the Files view.

Procedure

  1. In the Projects view, right-click on the project and select Batch Tasks > Update from Reviewed Target File (Retrofit).
To quickly update an *.sdlxliff project file when you have the document open in the Editor view, go to Review tab > Update from Bilingual Review split button > Update from Reviewed Target File (Retrofit).
  2. On the Batch Tasks page of the Batch Processing wizard, click Next.
  3. On the Files page, select the project files that you want to update and click Next.
  4. On the Update from Reviewed Target File (Retrofit) page, select the native target files to use to update your project files:
    • If the reviewed target file name has not been changed and the folder structure is the same, you can automatically match the SDL project file with its corresponding reviewed target file. This is useful if you have more than one reviewed target file that you need to select:
    1. Click Add and select Review Documents from a Folder.
    2. Browse to the External Review folder, select it and then click OK. A message is displayed indicating how many files have been added.
    • You can individually add each native target file. This is useful if you only have one file to select. You may also need to do this if you changed the file names or the file structure within the External Review folder.
    1. Select the target language for which you want to add the reviewed target file.
    2. Select the project file under the Project File column for which you want to add the reviewed target file.
    3. Click Add, select Specific Review Document, then select the document and click Open.
  5. Under Update options:
    • Set the quality level that will be applied to the reverse alignment by moving the slider from tolerant to strict. The more tolerant you set the slider, the more changes made to the reviewed target file will be imported into the project file.
    • To make a backup of your SDL XLIFF project file in case you accidentally overwrite content that you want to keep, select Create a backup of the project file before updating. The backup file is saved with a *.backup file extension in the project's BackupByRetrofit folder.
    • If you want to review and then adjust the alignment of the reviewed target file with the project file you can select the Review the reverse alignment before updating option. The Alignment Editor opens before the project file is updated.
  6. Click Finish to update your project files with the content from the reviewed documents.
  7. When the task is completed, click Close to exit the Batch Processing wizard. If you have not selected the Review the reverse alignment before updating option, the project file is updated with the review changes.
  8. If you chose to review the reverse alignment, the Alignment Editor opens. You can perform alignment changes as you see fit. For more information about aligning a file, see Aligning Retrofit Files.
  9. When you are done with the alignment, click Update SDLXLIFF file to send the alignment result to the document's corresponding project file.
