Working with GroupShare projects in an online workflow
- About SDL Studio GroupShare
GroupShare is the server product for SDL Trados Studio 2011-2015. It contains a server-based project sharing component called Project Server which allows you to upload and share your projects online, enabling you to collaborate on translation projects in a more efficient and centralized way. - About SDL Studio GroupShare Projects
GroupShare server-based projects are stored online and allow SDL Trados Studio users to collaborate on translation projects in a more efficient and centralized way. GroupShare projects can have multiple users working on different project files at the same time without having to distribute project packages containing the work to be completed. Project managers are also able to track the progress of the work that has been checked in. - About sharing a project and translation resources online
To share a project online, you can publish a project during project creation or you can publish an existing local SDL Trados Studio project to the SDL Studio GroupShare Project Server. Existing projects can be ones created in Trados Studio using the New Project wizard or a project that was created when you opened a package. Supported packages are ones created in Trados Studio, SDL WorldServer or TMS. - Editing GroupShare Project settings
- About checking in files to GroupShare
- Checking files to GroupShare
After you edit project files or you add new files to the GroupShare server, you need to check in the files. Saving a file updates the server with the version of the file that you have on your computer. Checking the file in confirms the fact that your work is done on the file. - Sharing a project online
To share a project, you can publish a project during project creation, or you can publish an existing local SDL Trados Studio project to the SDL Studio GroupShare Project Server. Publishing a project uploads it to a server on GroupShare where it can then be accessed and viewed by other team members with access rights. This procedure can also be used to republish projects that were previously deleted from the Project Server. - Opening and working with a GroupShare Project
To work with a SDL Studio GroupShare server-based project from the Project Server component of GroupShare, you need to open it in SDL Trados Studio. This will allow you to view the progress of the project, translate and review files in the project, perform any batch tasks and create project packages. You must have permissions to be able to open the project and perform any of these actions. - Checking out files
Checking files out from a SDL Studio GroupShare server-based project allows you to have multiple users working on a project at the same time without needing to send work in packages for team members to complete. When you check out a file, it automatically downloads an up-to-date copy of the file to your computer and locks the copy of the file on the GroupShare Project Server so that other team members cannot check out the same file at the same time as you. - Permissions for checking out a file
You can only check out files from a SDL Studio GroupShare project if you are member of a GroupShare role that has the Check Out My Project Files or the Check Out Any Project Files permission. - Canceling a Check Out
As an assigned user, you may want to cancel a check out of a file from a SDL Studio GroupShare server-based project if you accidentally checked it out or you decided you wanted to discard the changes you made locally. - Getting the latest version of the files
The Local State column in the Files view indicates whether you have the latest version of the file from a SDL Studio GroupShare server-based project on your machine. See GroupShare Project Local File States for more information. - Downloading a specific version of a file
Downloading a specific version of a file allows you to save a specific file version locally. You may want to download a specific version of a file so that you can compare it to a current version. - Deleting a project from GroupShare
You may want to delete a project from the SDL Studio GroupShare Project Server if the project is complete and you want to free up space for other projects, the project is canceled or you published the project to the wrong server. When you delete a project from the Project Server, it deletes all of the project files on the server but not any copies of files that a user has stored locally. - File assignments
- Working offline with a GroupShare Project
There may be some scenarios where you cannot connect to the SDL Studio GroupShare Project Server to check out the work that you want to edit. For example, you may be traveling and not be able to connect to the GroupShare server. In these cases, you can still choose to edit the project files if you have already downloaded from the server and then later update the project when you can connect to the server again. - Reference
