Configuring QuarkXPress Export file types
Configure QuarkXPress Export file type settings, so that you customize the way QuarkXPress Tagged Text and CopyFlow documents are processed during translation or review.
Procedure
- Decide for which projects you want to configure file type settings:
- For the active project, go to the Projects view, and on the Home tab, select Project Settings.
- For all future projects, go to .
- Expand the File Types list, and select the SubRip.
- Select the Common page and then choose how content is processed. Select:
- Remove soft returns to convert soft returns to spaces or ignore them where an adjacent character is a space. If you do not remove soft returns, they are converted to the
<\n>tags. Note that other file types have different options for soft returns. - Remove optional hyphens to remove discretionary hyphens. The placement of discretionary hyphens is dependent on the structure and pronunciation of words in the source language, so usually you should choose to remove rather than extract them.
- Convert character entity tags to replace the character entities that have a Unicode character by that character, and convert other character entities to standalone tags. If this option is not selected, the characters that are listed here are represented by the listed tags and other character entities are converted to standalone tags.

Kerning and tracking information applied to source text is usually too closely aligned to the source language text layout to be useful for the translated text, so usually you should not process these tags. If you do process these tags, then kerning tags are represented by
<k...>tags , and tracking tags by<t...>tags. - Convert hard returns to inline tags to convert hard returns (forced line breaks) to tags that appear inside the segments. If you do not select this, they are converted to structure tags and so cause a segment break.
- Remove soft returns to convert soft returns to spaces or ignore them where an adjacent character is a space. If you do not remove soft returns, they are converted to the
