Project package translation in Starter and Express

The Starter and Express editions allow you to work with users using the full versions of SDL Trados Studio by enabling you to open project packages. Project packages contain the project files and all of the resources you need to translate or review files. When you open a project package, a project is automatically created from the package. You can then review or translate the files and create return packages to send back your completed work.

Differences between the Starter and Express editions

In Express, you can only open packages created in an SDL enterprise product. Enterprise products include SDL WorldServer and SDL TMS.

Open for translation

After you have opened a package, a project is automatically created. You can then use the Open for Translation command in the Files view to open a file from a package for translation.

Open for review

After you have opened a package, a project is automatically created. You can then use the Open for Review command in the Files view to open a file from a package for review.

Translation memories, Termbases and AutoSuggest dictionaries

When you open a project package, it can contain various translation resources: file-based translation memories (TMs), termbases, and AutoSuggest dictionaries. It could also have references to server-based TMs and termbases. When the file is opened for translation or review, the translation resources are automatically applied to the file. If you do not want to use the TMs, termbases and AutoSuggest dictionaries included in the package, you can disable them in the Project Settings dialog.
