Adding a topic to a map

Topics are always added to a map, either as children of the map or as children of other topics.

Before you begin

This task requires that:
  • You opened a publication in Publication Manager, and this publication contains at least one map.
  • The Repository contains topics.

About this task

There are several ways to add a topic to a map. We describe here a drag-and-drop method from the browse dialog. You can apply the same procedure for adding a map to a publication or to another map.

Procedure

  1. In Publication Manager, check out the map you will work in: Right-click that map's name and select Check Out from the menu.
Adding a topic is a modification of the map content, and when you modify content, other users should not be able to modify it at the same time. Therefore the map is locked by you. Other users will be able to modify that map only after you have checked it back in.
  2. Select Tools > Browse Repository.
  3. In the Repository tab, find and select the folder where the topic you want to add is located.
  4. From the list of topics in the right-side pane of the browse dialog, drag the topic to the publication tree in the left-side pane of Publication Manager. A horizontal blue line and a tool tip indicate where the topic is inserted.
