Templates
You create Templates in Template Builder by adding Template Building Blocks to your Template, arranging them into a sequence, setting parameter values for each, and running them against content. Then open the Template in Content Manager Explorer to define its behavior during and after publishing.
- Creating a Template
You create a Template (Page Templates, Component Templates, or Template as a Template Building Block) in Template Builder. - Opening a Template
You open a Template in Template Builder by navigating to the Folder where the Template is located in Content Manager. Alternatively, you can open the template if displayed in the Recent items list. - Assembling Template Building Blocks in a Template
In Template Builder, you can add, delete or move Template Building Blocks in a Template. The order in which the Template Building Blocks are arranged is the order in which the Template executes the Template Building Blocks. - Setting parameter values for Template Building Blocks
Template Building Blocks in your Template may have parameters (as defined by the Parameters Schema associated with the Template Building Block) that you need to set. Parameters appear in the Parameters view when you select a Template Building Block. If you have added default Template Building Blocks, refer to the relevant documentation for possible values. - Running a Template
After you have assembled Template Building Blocks in a Template in Template Builder, you need to run a Page Template against a Page, a Component Template against a Component, and a Template Building Block against a package to check the correct functioning or the Template. - Creating a Dynamic Component Template
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Component Template and set whether Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be added dynamically or statically to a Page. - Configuring Component Template Priority
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Component Template and set the Priority. A content author can create a hyperlink to a Component that is used in multiple places on a Web site. The Priority of a Component Template determines the likelihood that a Component that uses the Component Template becomes the target of this hyperlink. - Configuring Component Template Output Format
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Component Template and set the Output Format. The Output Format specifies the language of the fragment that this Component Template produces. - Configuring Component Template Linked Schemas
In Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Component Template and specify Linked Schemas. Linked Schemas specify the Schemas of Components that a Component Template can render—a Template typically contains references to data (and metadata) fields that exist in a certain Schema or Schemas. - Configuring Page Template File Extension
In Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Page Template and specify the File Extension you want to give to the webpages rendered using this Page Template. Your Web server or Web and Application Server may handle Web pages differently based on the extension of the file. - Associating your Page Template with a Page Schema
To place restrictions on Pages rendered with this Page Template, such as the number or types of Component Presentations, or which Regions must be present, associate a Region Schema that defines such restrictions with this Page Template. The Region Schema (also called Page Schema in this context) may additionally specify metadata fields for Pages rendered with this Page Template. - Configuring Template Metadata Schemas
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Component Template, Page Template or Template Building Block and specify a Metadata Schema. - Template tasks in Content Manager Explorer
This section describes the generic tasks you can perform on a Page Template, Component Template, or Template as Template Building Block in Content Manager Explorer.
