Upgrading SDL Tridion Sites
This section describes how you can upgrade from an earlier version of SDL Tridion Sites (formerly called SDL Web or SDL Tridion) to SDL Tridion Sites 9.1. You can upgrade to SDL Tridion Sites 9.1 from SDL Web 8.5 or SDL Tridion Sites 9.
- About upgrading
The upgrading documentation describes how to upgrade each part of your SDL Tridion Sites system to the SDL Tridion Sites 9.1 on-premises release of SDL Tridion Sites. Alternatively, you can also choose to move some or all parts of your on-premises SDL Tridion Sites instance into the Cloud. Moving into the Cloud is a big decision with multiple decision points, but it also offers considerable benefits. - Upgrading the Content Manager environment
If you have an existing release of the product installed, upgrade the Content Manager database, server and clients. - Upgrading your Content Delivery databases
Upgrade your Content Delivery databases by running a PowerShell script or SQL scripts. Only run SQL scripts if you cannot avoid it, for example, if you upgrade an Oracle database on a non-Windows system. Skip this section altogether if you only use a file system for storage (which is a deprecated and discouraged setup, with severe functional limitations). - Upgrading Content Delivery software
Upgrade Content Delivery software to take advantages of the changes introduced in this product release. Depending on the release from which you are upgrading, upgrading can consists of updating existing resources, or it can amount to a complete migration to the new architecture. - Upgrading the UGC database
If you have UGC (User-Generated Content) installed as a part of SDL Web 8.5 or SDL Tridion Sites 9, upgrade your existing Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server UGC database by running a PowerShell script (for Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server on Windows) or manually running scripts (for Oracle on a non-Windows system). The UGC feature is deprecated as of SDL Tridion Sites 9.1. - Upgrading Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail
Upgrade the various Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail databases by running a PowerShell script, upgrade the Content Manager Server side by running the installer, and upgrade Synchronization Server and Presentation Server by updating the resources used in these web applications. Note that both of these features are deprecated: Outbound E-mail is deprecated as of SDL Web 8; Audience Manager is deprecated as of SDL Tridion Sites 9.1. - Upgrading Translation Manager
To upgrade Translation Manager, upgrade the Translation Manager database and run the Content Manager installer. Refer to the Translation Manager support history to ensure that you are running a supported version of SDL TMS or SDL WorldServer. - Upgrading Content Porter to Content Porter in Tridion Sites 9.1
To upgrade to the latest version of Content Porter, remove Content Porter server-side software from all Content Manager servers, remove the Content Porter button from all Content Manager Explorer user interfaces, and then add the Content Porter button to the Tridion Sites 9.1 Content Manager Explorer user interface. - Upgrading or migrating Experience Optimization
Read this section if you have a previous version of Experience Optimization installed and you want to upgrade to the current version that comes with SDL Tridion Sites 9.1. For some upgrade paths, you may also need to perform some more extensive migration tasks. - Upgrading the Context Expression Extension
To upgrade Context Expression Extension, upgrade the Content Deployer extension and the Context Expression Extension Cartridge. - Upgrading add-on products
Unless explicitly indicated otherwise, upgrade add-on products by uninstalling them before upgrading Content Manager, then (re)installing them afterward. This section explains which versions of add-on products are compatible with SDL Tridion Sites 9.5 and which hotfixes you need to apply.
