Configuring attributes for Akeneo products and selecting products for translation

Before you can select products for translation, you need to create attribute groups, types, and families.

Procedure

  1. In Akeneo, in the menu on the left, select Settings, and then, under Product Settings, select Attribute groups.
  2. Select Create to create a new attribute group.
  3. In the Code box, enter Translations, and then select Save.
  4. In the menu on the left, select Settings, and then, under Product Settings, select Attributes.
  5. Select Create Attribute and create a new attribute:
    1. Select the Yes/No attribute type.
    2. Enter Translation queued in the Label box and Translation_queued in the Code box.
    3. Configure the attribute to not be localizable and select Confirm.
    4. Go to the properties of the Translation queued attribute and, in the Attribute group list, select Translations.
    5. Toggle on the Usable in grid option and select Save.
  6. Select Create Attribute to create a second attribute:
    1. Select the Text attribute type.
    2. Specify the following details:
      • Label:Translation status
      • Code:Translation_status
      • Read only:True
      • Attribute group:Translations
      • Value per locale:True (selected)
      • Usable in grid:Yes
    3. Select Confirm.
    4. Go to the properties of the Translation status attribute and, in the Attribute group list, select Translations.
    5. Toggle on the Read only option and select Save.
  7. In the menu on the left, select Settings, and then, under Product Settings, select Families.
  8. Under Families, select the check box, select any attribute, and then, next to Bulk Actions, choose Select All in the list.
  9. Select Bulk Actions:
    1. Under Select your action, select Set attribute requirements, and then select Next.
    2. Under Set attribute requirements of <number> families, select Add by Groups, search for Translations, select it, and then select Add and Next.
    The attribute group you created earlier will now be available for all the products.
  10. In the menu on the left, select Products, and then, under Category, select Brands - Brands.
  11. Select the brands, and then select Done.
  12. Next to the list of products, select the check box corresponding to any product, and then, in the list next to Bulk Actions, select All visible.
  13. Select Bulk Actions:
    1. Under Select your action, select Edit attribute values.
    2. Under Edit attribute values of <number> products, in the Select Attributes list, search for Translation.
    3. Select the Translation queued and [Translation_status] attributes, and then select Add.
    4. Set the value of the Translation queued attribute to Yes, and then select Next.
    5. Select Confirm.

Results

At this point, all the products available for translation are displayed on the dashboard of the Trados connector.
