Required components

A series of components that you need to set up to ensure that the RWS connector is working properly.

Organizations, project options/configurations

The recommendation is to separate all integrations into their own organization. The connector exposes available project options (configurations) to the user during project creation and access to non-integration supported options can cause confusion and project creation errors.

Document types

Veeva Vault supports many document and media types for translation. You can find a list of Vault-supported file formats (for viewable renditions) here.

RWS supports hundreds of document types as standard, with the option to use wildcard or custom configured file formats. Required document types should be defined with the customer Vault team and with the RWS Account team to ensure that the documents sent from Vault to Trados are known and file type filters, configurations, and workflows are set up in Trados.

Languages

Languages are mapped from Vault to Trados via the RWS language object in Vault. There is no auto-configuration process, so make sure that the languages configured in Vault are matched and set up in the Trados configurations. Locales follow the language culture format – for example, en-US, fr-FR, or de-DE.

Workflows

The workflow can be configured to support the business requirements of the customer and translation teams, but must have the following stages:
  • Rebuild Translation – creates the target document to be delivered by the connector
  • Translated Content Retrieval – the connector retrieves target document
Vault customers store PDF files in Vault and require translation. These can be scanned images and require an item conversion stage. If the item conversion stage is used before an Authorization stage, the document must be downloaded/uploaded to ensure that the document file name is entered into the Trados database. The connector uses this file name when uploading a translated document to Vault to make sure that Vault can create the rendition of the document.

Attributes

The RWS connector exposes attributes set on the project option/configuration for use when creating a project. These attributes can be used in multiple ways. For example, as the default attributes that would appear on the connector page for users to fill in.
