Add-ons, Extensions and Connectors

Various Add-ons, Extensions and Connectors are available for Tridion Sites, which can be used to extend product functionality or integrate it with other systems. You can also develop your own custom Extensions and Connectors and add them to your implementation using the Add-ons feature .

Add-ons, Extensions and Connectors are related, but independent things in Tridion Sites. The following definitions clarify the specific purpose of each item and the relationships between them:

Add-on

An Add-on is a functional enhancement to the core Tridion Sites product. An Add-on is made up of one or more Extensions.

The Add-ons feature enables you to easily add new Add-ons to your Tridion Sites implementation.

Extension

An Extension enhances a specific part of Tridion Sites core product. Each Extension interacts with a specific extension point that Tridion Sites makes available for this purpose. For example, there's an extension point for resolving content prior to publishing, an extension point for the Event System, and extension points for extending the user interfaces.

After building a new Extension, use the Add-ons feature to upload and manage it.

Connector

A Connector is a specific type of Add-on that is specifically used to integrate Tridion Sites with other systems, either other RWS products or third-party systems.

Build new Connectors on the Tridion Integration Framework, and then use the Add-ons feature to upload and manage them.
