Connecting to external taxonomies in Taxonomy Space

When your Tridion Sites license includes the Tridion Semantic AI package, you can expose external taxonomies that you manage in Taxonomy Space in Content Manager. Optionally, you can implement Smart Tagging in your Schemas to promote efficient and consistent classification. Once set up in Content Manager, users can classify content with the external taxonomies and furthermore, use the classified content to drive presentation-side functionality, such as for faceted search in your website.

External Categories display under the Taxonomies node at the same level as regular (internal) Tridion Sites Categories. The following diagram illustrates how concept schemes and concepts in Taxonomy Space map to External Categories and Concepts in Content Manager:

Authors and editors can see and use the external Concepts in generally the same way as they do internal Keywords, but with added capabilities. In summary, users can do the following from the user interface:
  • Navigate the external taxonomy's structure
  • Classify Tridion Sites content with external concepts (any content items that include metadata can be classified)
  • For a selected concept, view all Tridion Sites content items that have been classified with that concept tag
  • In Experience Space only, obtain for fast and consistent suggestions for classifying Components through the Smart Tagging feature

The subtopics in this section describe the process of connecting to external taxonomies.
