Creating a basic Business Process Type for publishing

Create a basic Business Process Type to define where to publish the resources of a website contained in your Publication. Creating a Business Process Type also involves creating one or more Target Types.

Before you begin

Creating a Business Process Type requires Business Process Type Management rights (or administrator-level rights).

About this task

This task explains how to set up a basic Business Process Type so that publishing is possible even though you have not implemented all your business logic. Because of this, the Business Process Type you create now makes a number of simplifications:
  • The Business Process Type allows publishing by anybody to any Target Type. Once you have set up Users and Groups, update this Business Process Type to allow publishing to a specific Target Type only if the publish is performed by a certain user profile.
  • The Business Process Type allows publishing of any content to any Target Type. Once you have set up workflow, and specifically Approval Statuses, update this Business Process Type to allow publishing to a specific Target Type only if a certain Approval Status has been reached.
  • The Business Process Type does not include any association with Bundle Schemas. Once you have set up Bundle Schemas and Bundles, update this Business Process Type to associate it with a specific set of Bundle Schemas.

Procedure

  1. Access the Content Manager Explorer website.
  2. Go to the Business Process Types node for the Publication.
  3. From the Create menu, select New Business Process Type.
A properties window opens for the new type.
  4. On the General tab, specify a Title and a Description for your Business Process Type.
  5. On the Target Types tab, select a Topology Type.
The list of Topology Types corresponds to the types defined in Topology Manager. After you select a Topology Type, the window updates to show the associated Purposes, such as Staging or Live, also defined in Topology Manager.
  6. In the list on the left, select a Topology Manager Purpose to define as a Content Manager Target Type for the new Business Process Type.
  7. On the General tab, define the general properties of the Target Type.
    Note the following:
    • Be sure to change the value of the Name field, which defaults to a generated name for the Target Type, to something more descriptive.
    • A Minimal Approval Status means that publishing to that Target Type is impossible until it has reached at least the Approval Status specified
    • The Priority sets the publishing priority in relationship to other publishing transactions. For example, you might give a higher priority to a live environment to accelerate publishing when possible, or give a lower priority to a staging environment to delay publishing.
  8. On the Security tab, define the user and group-level security for the Target Type. For example, you can restrict the ability to publish to a Target Type to a certain subset of your users.
  9. As needed, repeat steps 6 - 8 for additional associated Target Types.
  10. When finished, select Save and Close.
